WEEE Information for Householders

On buying a new electrical or electronic item in a shop you should be given guidance on proper disposal of any item which it is replacing. This is likely either to be a request to take it to the special WEEE collection facilities at your local Recycling Centre or Civic Amenity Site, or to take it back to that same shop within a reasonable period (usually 28 days), where you will be able to leave it for disposal. Whichever you are offered, there will be no charge to you.

Disposal of any other item of WEEE, not being replaced with new, is only possible at local authority sites or at other authorised sites (known as ‘Third Party Designated Collection Facilities’). CFE is one of these – click here to get our location details and opening hours. Bringing it to us, rather than to a local authority site, significantly increases the chance that it (or its components) will be re-used, thus avoiding the consumption of fresh resources and energy in manufacturing a brand new product. By supporting us, too, you will be helping create and maintain employment for people whose working lives have been fragmented or disrupted.

CFE Project will collect unwanted domestic appliances from your home. Call 01685 846830 or contact us via the CFE.

Please be aware that you must not take such waste to shops or stores for disposal.

Please don’t be tempted to dispose of WEEE at home in your bin or black bag. The WEEE arrangements have been put in place so that the damaging effects of WEEE in landfill will be reduced.
